Kazoo - 1852. The first metal kazoos were manufactured and patented in Eden, New York, where they are still made in the original factory. A temporary kazoo can be made by combining comb and tissue paper or wax paper. The kazoo is played professionally in jug bands and comedy music, and by amateurs everywhere. It is one of the few acoustic instruments to be developed in the United States and one of the easiest melodic instruments to play well, requiring only the ability to hum in tune. Kanjuro Shibata XX - Kanjuro Shibata XX, Sensei (born 1921) is twentieth in a line of master bowmakers and a Kyudo teacher of the Heki Ryu Bishu Chikurin-ha tradition. He was born in Kyoto, Japan. Shibata served as the Bowmaker to the Emperor of Japan from 1959 until 1994, when his adopted son, Nobuhiro, was recognized as the 21st in the Shibata lineage and assumed the duties of Imperial Bowmaker. In Japan, Shibata became concerned that his students were too fixated on merely hitting the target, and were treating Kyudo as a sport rather than a meditative art. He felt they were becoming too competitive. In 1980, Shibata accepted an invitation from Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche to come to the United States and teach kyudo, and founded the Ryuko Kyudojo ("dragon-tiger archery practice hall") in Boulder,.

Karl Barth - in Basel, he spent his childhood years in Bern. From 1911 to 1921 he served as pastor in the village of Safenwil in the canton Aargau. Later he was professor of theology in Germany. Karel Appel - Karel Appel (born April 25, 1921) is a painter, born in Amsterdam. He studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten there from 1940 to 1943 and started exhibiting in 1946. He was influenced by Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Jean Dubuffet and joined the Nederlandse Experimentele Groep and joined CoBrA in 1948. His 1949 fresco in the Amsterdam City Hall caused controversy and was covered up for ten years. Kevin O'Higgins - he became MP for Laois. In 1919 O'Higgins was appointed Assistant Minister for Local Government. He was strongly in favour of accepting the Treaty in 1921. In 1922 he was elected TD for Dublin. In the first government he became Minister for Justice and External Affairs, as well as Vice-President of the Executive Council (Deputy Prime Minister). When the Irish Civil War broke out he tried to restore law and order by introducing tough measures. Between 1922 and 1923 seventy-seven Republican prisoners were executed by order of O'Higgins. O'Higgins also set up An Garda Síochána (an un-armed police force). As Minister for External Affairs he advocated a free and independent Ireland within the Commonwealth. Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika - Administration between 1935 and 1961 for use in the colonies of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanganyika. Philatelists usually class the 1921-1927 issues of the East Africa and Uganda Protectorates and Kenya and Uganda under the KUT rubric, but the first issues spelling out all the names of the colonies came in 1935, in the form of common design commemoratives for the Silver Jubilee of King George V as well as a definitive series featuring a profile of the king and local scenes. The definitives included a dramatic departure form the usual engraved stamps of the period; the 10c and 1lb stamp were typographed and had a silhouette of a lion, with color combinations of black/yellow and black/red, respectively. The same designs were reissued in 1938 with a profile of George VI. Wartime.
Kingsbury Commitment - to independent exchanges under certain conditions and to refrain from acquisitions if the Interstate Commerce Commission objected. The Commitment did not settle all the differences between independents and Bell companies and averted the federal takeover many had expected. However the Commitment played into AT&T's hands - the company was allowed to buy market-share, as long as it sold an equal number of phones. So AT&T was able to consolidate its hold on the most profitable urban markets, and interconnection only strengthened its hand in long-distance traffic. Between 1930 and 1940 there were over 25 separate governments. The 1930s saw the rise of a number of ultra-nationalist parties, notably the quasi-mystical fascist Iron Guard movement, exploiting nationalism, fear of communism, and resentment of alleged foreign and Jewish domination of the economy. On February 10, 1938, in order to prevent the formation of a government that would have included Iron Guard ministers, and in direct confrontation to Adolf Hitler's expressed support of the Iron Guard, King Carol II dismissed the government and instituted a short-lived royal dictatorship.
