Kaarlo Juho Ståhlberg - to form various parliamentarian precedents and interpretations and nominate many short-lived cabinets. In foreign policy Ståhlberg was markedly reserved towards Sweden, cautious towards Germany, and generally unsuccessful in his attempts to closer contacts with Poland, the United Kingdom and France. Ståhlberg did not seek re-election 1925. He became a senior member of the government's Judicial Council. In 1930 activists from the right-wing Lapua Movement kidnapped him and his wife, attempting to send them to the Soviet Union, but the incident merely hastened the Lapua Movement's demise. He was a presidential candidate in 1931 and 1937 but was not elected. 1930-1932 he was Member of Parliament for the Nationalist Liberal Kansallinen Edistyspuolue party, fighting right-wing anti-parliamentarian initiatives. After 1946 Ståhlberg retired and became legal adviser of President Juho Kusti Paasikivi. He died.
Karl Guthe Jansky - the constellation of Sagittarius. The discovery was widely publicized, appearing in the New York Times of May 5, 1933. Jansky wanted to follow up on this discovery and investigate the radio waves from the Milky Way Galaxy in more detail. He proposed to Bell Labs to build a 30 meter diameter dish antenna. But Bell Labs had the answer they wanted about static: the static was not a problem for transatlantic radio communication. Jansky was assigned to another project and did no more radio astronomy. Many scientists were fascinated by Jansky's discovery, but no one followed up on it for several years. It was during the Great Depression, and observatories could not afford take on any new projects. Two men who learned of Jansky's discovery in 1933 were of great influence.
Karadjordje - liberation of all Christians from Turks. Helped by members of Heteria, Karadjordje went with fake passport to Serbia and stepped on Serbian soil on June 28th 1817. Frightened by Karadjordje's coming, both for himself and for Serbia, which could perish again in another struggle, knez Miloš ordered his execution which was soon acomplished. Kawabata Yasunari - (The Artistic Age), a neo-Impressionist journal. Kawabata committed suicide in 1972. Kawabata debuted with Izu no Odoriko ("The Dancer of Izu") in 1927. In 1937 appeared his novel Yukiguni ("Snow Country"), a stark tale of a love affair between a Tokyo playboy and a provincial geisha in a remote hot springs town. Yukiguni established Kawabata as one of Japan's foremost authors and became an instant classic. Senbazuru ("Thousand Cranes") continued some of the themes of Yukiguni. Karol Szymanowski - Symanowski (October 6, 1882 - March 29, 1937) was a Polish composer and pianist. Szymanowksi was born in Ukraine. He studied music privately with his father before going to the Elizawetgrad School of Music and, from 1901, the State Conservatory in Warsaw (he was later director there for a few years at the end of the 1920s). He travelled widely, throughout Europe and to the USA. He died in a sanatorium in Lausanne. Szymanowski's was influenced by the music of Richard Strauss, Max Reger, Alexander Scriabin and the impressionism of Claude Debussy. He also drew influence from his countryman Frederic Chopin and Polish folk music, and like Chopin he wrote a number of mazurkas for piano (the mazurka being a Polish folk dance). Among Szymanowski's better known works are his two.
Katherine Young - in Beijing (then Peking). She married Paul T.J. Young, and raised four daughters in China while staying one step ahead of the Japanese invasion of 1937. After the war ended, the family lived in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and eventually immigrated to California in 1958, finally settling in Palo Alto where she resides today. KdF Ship Wilhelm Gustloff - cultural activities to German workers, including concerts, cruises and other holidays. The Wilhelm Gustloff was the flagship of the KdF cruise fleet. From its launch in 1937 until 1939 it served its original purpose. From Sep 1939 to Nov 1940, it served as a hospital ship. During the majority of the Second World War, Wilhelm Gustloff was used primarily as a barracks ship for U-boat trainees. Kenilworth Castle - at later castles built in Wales, notably Caerphilly. Edward I bestowed the castle upon his youngest son Edmund Crouchback, 1st Earl of Lancaster. The castle was inherited by his grandson Henry, Duke of Lancaster, which then passed to his son-in-law John of Gaunt. From 1364 John of Gaunt began the castle's conversion from a pure fortress into something more liveable, work that continued with his grandson, Henry V. The castle remained in royal hands until it was given to John Dudley in 1553, following his execution Elizabeth I gave it to her favourite Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester in 1563.
