List of reference tables - List of reference tables You usually find a collection of reference tables in the back of almanacs, dictionaries and encyclopedias (or an index of them, if they're scattered throughout the work). As these tables appear, please add them to this index. What we have in mind is listings or tabular information for quick reference, not narrative articles. 1998 - by El Niño, strikes New England, southern Ontario and Quebec, resulting in widespread power failures, severe damage to forests, and a number of deaths. January 1 - Smoking is banned in all California bars and restaurants January 2 - Russia begins to circulate new rubless to stem inflation and promote confidence. January 6 - The Lunar Prospector spacecraft is launched into orbit around the Moon and later found evidence for frozen water on the moon's surface. January 8 - Ramzi Yousef is sentenced to life in prison for planning the World Trade Center bombing. January 8 - Cosmologists announce that the expansion rate of the universe is increasing. January 12 - 19 European nations agree to forbid human cloning. January 14 - Researchers in Dallas, Texas present findings about an enzyme.

March 5 - NASA announced that that the Clementine probe orbiting the Moon had found enough water.

Alphonsus crater - explosive eruptions. Alphonsus is a very old impact crater, dating from the immediate post-Nectarian age. Alphonsus crater was one of the primary alternative landing sites considered for both the Apollo 16 and the Apollo 17 missions. The Ranger 9 probe impacted in Alphonsus crater, a short distance to the northeast of the central peak. See also List of Lunar craters.

Alder crater - Pole-Aitken basin. Alder crater is associated with the only area in the basin not dominated by the pyroxene rocks typical of lunar lowlands. This alder ejecta area is on spectrographic evidence instead principally anorthosite rock, typical of the lunar highlands. See also List of Lunar craters.

Ranger program - the first United States attempt to obtain close-up images of the Lunar surface. The Ranger spacecraft were designed to fly straight down towards the Moon and send images back until the moment of impact. Ranger was originally designed, beginning in 1959, in three distinct phases, called "blocks." Each block had different mission objectives and progressively more advanced system design. The JPL mission designers planned multiple launches in each block, to maximize the engineering experience and scientific value of the mission and to assure at least one successful flight. Total research, development, launch, and support costs for the Ranger series of spacecraft (Rangers 1 through 9) was approximately $170 million. Block 1 missions Block 1, consisting of two spacecraft launched into Earth orbit in 1961, was intended to test the Atlas/Agena launch.

List of lunar astronauts - List of lunar astronauts Twenty-four astronauts have been on or near the Moon. Twelve of these landed on the moon and actually walked on its surface. All are men from the United States of America who traveled to the Moon as part of NASA's Apollo program during the period from December 1968 to December 1972. Apart from these 24 people, no human being has ever left earth orbit (with a height of a few hundred km); they have thus gone farther from the earth than anyone else has ever gone (see "where no man has gone before"). People who have walked on the moon As of 2003, only the following twelve people have walked on the Moon, each on one mission only. Nobody has walked on.

List of craters on Europa - List of craters on Europa Europa's surface is very young, geologically speaking, and as a result are very few craters. Furthermore, as Europa's surface is made of weak water ice over a liquid ocean, most surviving craters have slumped so that their structure is very low in relief. The craters that are large enough to have names are all named after prominent figures in Celtic myths and folklore. Here is a list of those craters: Amergin Angus Avagddu Balor Brigid Camulus Cilix Cliodhna Cormac Deirdre Diarmuid Dylan Elathan Govannan Grainne Gwydion Llyr Mael Duin Maeve Manannan Math Morvran Niamh Oisin Pryderi Pwyll Rhiannon Taliesin Tegid Uaithne.
