List of Swedish monarchs - List of Swedish monarchs This is a list of Swedish monarchs, that is, the Kingss and ruling Queenss of Sweden with Regents and Viceroys of the Kalmar Union up until the present time. There are lists of Swedish (pagan) monarchs with dates far older than these. These records contain the early kings and gives an explanation to the numbering of the monarchs, particularly the names Erik and Karl (Eric and Charles). Because of this, lists of succession traditionally start with the first baptized christian king of Sweden, Olof Skötkonung and his father Erik Segersäll. Jacob Magnus Sprengtporten - could never forgive Gustav for having forestalled the revolution, and his morbidly irritable and suspicious temper saw slights and insults in the most innocent conjunctures. His first quarrel with Gustavus happened in 1774 when he refused to accept the post of commander-in-chief in Finland on the eve of threatened war with Imperial Russia. The king good-naturedly overlooked his outrageous insolence on this occasion, but the inevitable rupture was only postponed. A most trumpery affair brought matters to a head. Sprengtporten had insulted the guards by giving precedence over them at a court-martial to some officers of his own dragoons. The guards complained to the king, who, after consulting with the senate, mildly remonstrated with Sprengtporten by letter. Sprengtporten thereupon tendered his resignation as colonel of the guard, and at a personal.
Jesper Mattson Cruus af Edeby - victory, against the Danish forces, led by King Christian IV of Denmark, at the Battle of Kölleryd, on February 21, 1612. See also: List of Swedish politicians, List of Swedish military commanders.
John Graves Simcoe - obtained a commission in the 35th Regiment of Foot, and was sent to Boston to fight in the American Revolution. He purchased a majority in the 40th Regiment, but then in 1777 was made commanding officer of the 1st American Regiment (the Queen's Rangers) of loyalist volunteers. Simcoe was one of the army's most successful commanders during this war. He achieved the rank of lieutenant-colonel and was wounded three times before being captured in 1779. He returned to Britain two years later. The Province of Upper Canada was created under the Constitutional Act of 1791. This law stipulated that the provincial government would consist of the Lieutenant-Governor, an appointed Executive Council and an elected Legislative Council. Simcoe was selected as the Lieutenant-Governor, and made plans to move to Upper Canada with.
Johan Banér - at Chemnitz and invaded Bohemia itself. The winter of 1640-1641 Banér spent in the west. His last achievement was an audacious coup-de-main on the Danube. Breaking camp in mid-winter (a very rare event in the 17th century) he united with the French under the comte de Guébriant and surprised Regensburg, where the diet was sitting. Only the break-up of the ice prevented the capture of the place. Banér thereupon had to retreat to Halberstadt. Here, on May 10, 1641, he died, after designating Torstenson as his successor. He was much beloved by his men, who bore his body with them on the field of Wolfenbüttel. Banér was regarded as the best of Gustavus'ss generals, and tempting offers (which he refused) were made him by the emperor to induce him to enter.
Johan Christopher Toll - one of Charles XII's warriors, his mother a descendant of the aristocratic Gyellenstjernas. In his youth Johan Christopher served in the Seven Years' War, and then, exchanging the military for the civil service, became head ranger or överjägmästare of the County of Kristianstad. Royal conspirator During the Riksdag of 1771-1772 the dominant "Caps" deprived him of his post, and Toll, shrewdly guessing that the king was preparing a revolution, almost forced his services on the conspirators, Georg Magnus Sprengtporten declaring that a man who knew so much of their most secret plans must either "be killed or squared" To Toll was assigned by far the most difficult part of the enterprise. It was his business to secure the important southern fortress of Kristianstad. Two days after the coronation, on May 21,.
Johan August Sandels - at Virta Bridge. These events and others in of the Finnish War were late retold in a series of epic poems by Johan Ludvig Runeberg. See also: List of Swedish military commanders, List of Swedish wars.
Joseph Radetzky von Radetz - to 1812, as chief of the general staff, he was active in the reorganization of the army and its tactical system, but, unable to carry out the reforms he desired owing to the opposition of the Treasury, he resigned the post. In 1813 he was Schwarzenberg's chief of staff, and as such had considerable influence on the councils of the Allied sovereigns and generals. Langenau, the quartermaster-general of the Grand Army, found him an indispensable assistant, and he had a considerable share in planning the Leipzig campaign and as a tactician won great praises in the battles of Battle of Brienne and Arcis sur Aube. He entered Paris with the allied sovereigns in March 1814, and returned with them to thc congress of Vienna, where he appears to have acted as.
