MIT OpenCourseWare - MIT OpenCourseWare OpenCourseWare is an initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to put all of the educational materials from MIT's undergraduate- and graduate-level courses online, free and openly available to anyone, anywhere, by the year 2007. MIT OpenCourseWare (MIT OCW) can be considered a large-scale, web-based publication of MIT course materials. The project was announced in 2001. Kendall Square Research - company headquartered in Kendall Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts, near MIT. Its machines ran Unix, and were shared memory NUMA machines based on a custom processor. A moderate number of the KSR1 models were sold, but as the KSR2 was being rolled out, the company collapsed amid accounting irregularities. Konrad Zuse - interpreter was available until 2000. In 1946 Zuse founded world's first computer startup company: the Zuse-Ingenieurbüro Hopferau. Venture capital was raised through ETH Zürich and an IBM option on Zuse's patents. Zuse founded another company, Zuse KG, in 1949. J.C.R. Licklider - of time-sharing and the modern Internet. Licklider was also a colleague of Douglas Engelbart, who was head of the Stanford Research Institute and its highly influential OnLine System. In 1950, Licklider moved from Harvard University to MIT where he got his first credible computing experiences. He worked on a Cold War project known as SAGE designed to create computer-based air defense systems.
