Oda Nobunaga - Oda Nobunaga Oda Nobunaga (織田 信長 1534-1582) was a major daimyo during the Sengoku period of Japanese history. Son of Oda Nobuhide, a minor warlord with meager land holdings in Owari province, Nobunaga lived a life of continuous military conquest to eventually conquer most of Japan before his untimely death in 1582. Militarily, Nobunaga's revolutionary thinking not only changed the way war was fought in Japan, but also in turn made one of the most modernized forces in the world at that time. He developed, implemented, and expanded the use of long pikess, firearms, ironclad ships, and castle fortifications in accordance to the expanded mass battles of the period. Nobunaga also instituted a specialized warrior class system and appointed his retainers and subjects to positions based.

Oda Nobuhide - Oda Nobuhide Oda Nobuhide (織田 信秀 1510-1551) was a warlord and magistrate of lower Owari province during the Sengoku Period of Japan. He was the father of the great Oda Nobunaga. Though the head of the Oda clan, Nobuhide never fully united Owari province but was involved in open warfare as he was fronted to the north by Saito Dousan, daimyo of Mino province, and to the east by Imagawa Yoshimoto, the daimyo of Mikawa, Suruga, and Totomi provinces. In 1549, Nobuhide made peace with Saito Dousan by arranging a political marriage between son Nobunaga and Saito's daughter. However, confrontation between the Imagawa and the Oda continued. Nobuhide suddenly died in 1551 and designated young Nobunaga to succeed him in becoming head of the Oda clan.
