Wired Magazine - in SF). The fortune of the magazine and allied enterprises corresponded closely to that of the dot-com boom. In late 1999 and 2000, Rossetto and the other participants in Wired Ventures twice tried to take the company public with an IPO, but had to withdraw owing to a lack of interest within the investment community. Rossetto was eventually forced out in 2000. Since the crash of the dot-com boom, Wired lost a lot of its impact and has ceased to be as influential. Over the years, Wired's writers have included, among many others, Pamela Borsook, Po Bronson, Chip Bayers, Denise Caruso, Douglas Coupland, Simson Garfinkel, George Gilder, Bill Joy, Mitch Kapor, Lawrence Lessig, Pamela McCorduck, Randall Rothenberg, Phil Patton Schrage, Neal Stephenson, Bruce Sterling, and Gary Wolf. George Stephenson - George Stephenson George Stephenson (June 9, 1781 - August 12, 1848). British engineer who designed a famous and historically important steam-powered locomotive named The Rocket. George Stephenson was born in Wylam, England, several miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne. In 1748, a wagonway -- an arrangement similar to a railway, but with wooden tracks and designed to support horse-drawn carts -- had been built from the Wylam colliery to the River Tyne, running for several miles. The young Stephenson grew up near it, and in 1802 gained employment as an engine-man at a coal mine. For the next ten years his knowledge of steam engines increased, until in 1812 he stopped operating them for a living, and started building them. Stephenson designed his first locomotive in 1814,.
D. C. Stephenson - D. C. Stephenson D. C. (David Curtiss) Stephenson (1891-1966) was Grand Dragon of the Indiana Ku Klux Klan, whose conviction for murder led to the end of the second wave of Klan activity. He was born in Houston, Texas, moved with his family to Maysville, Oklahoma, where he worked as a printer's apprentice and was active in the Socialist Party. In 1920 he moved to Evansville, Indiana, where he became a salesman and joined the Democratic Party before becoming Grand Dragon of the Indiana Ku Klux Klan in 1922. The position led to the acquisition of great wealth, which he used to support political candidates, notably that of Ed Jackson when he ran (successfully) for governor in 1924. Publicly a Prohibitionist and a defender of "Protestant.
Vernor Vinge - Grimm's World (1969), and publishing a second novel, The Witling (1975). Vinge came to prominence in 1981 with his novella "True Names", which is one of the earliest stories to present a fully fleshed-out concept of cyberspace, which would later be central to stories by William Gibson, Neal Stephenson and others (and particularly to the cyberpunk genre). His next two novels, The Peace War (1984) and Marooned in Realtime (1986), concern the impact of a technology which can create impenetrable force fields called "Bobbles" (with other properties which aren't revealed here as they are spoilers for the former book). These books built Vinge's reputation as an author who would explore his scientifictional ideas to their logical conclusions and in novel and particularly inventive ways. He was nominated for the Hugo Award.

Kilsby Tunnel - on the West Coast Mainline railway in England. It was designed and engineered by Robert Stephenson. The tunnel is located near the village of Kilsby in Northamptonshire roughly 5 miles (8 km) southeast of Rugby. The tunnel is 2,432 yards (2,223 metres) long. The tunnel was opened in 1838 as a part of the London and Birmingham Railway. At the time of its opening, Kilsby tunnel was the longest tunnel in the world, and is today the 18th longest tunnel on the British railway system. The tunnel took far longer, and cost far more money to build than had been anticipated. This was because the tunnel builders encountered unexpected quicksand which trial borings into the hill had not revealed. The excess water from the quicksand had to be pumped out, a.
Kobe Bryant - the son of NBA player Joe Jellybean Bryant and his wife Pamela Cox, sister of NBA player John Chubby Cox. Bryant entered the NBA at the age of 18 after a spectacular high school career in the Philadelphia Main Line suburb of Lower Merion, and was originally selected by the Charlotte Hornets. He never played for the Hornets; within weeks of being drafted, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Though young and somewhat introverted, Bryant's immense talent made an immediate impression with his teammates on the practice court. Bryant's career trajectory as an NBA player out of high school has been exceptional. By 24 years of age, Bryant had won many individual awards, and had been named to the All-NBA team multiple times. He is regarded as one of.
Ku Klux Klan - had evolved into an entity which he believed had strayed from its original mission and had instead grown increasingly violent and antagonistic. In 1871 President Ulysses S. Grant put what was believed to be the final nail in the Klan's coffin, and signed The Klan Act and Enforcement Act. The Klan became an illegal terrorist group, and the use of force was authorized to suppress and disrupt the organization's activities. The second Ku Klux Klan was re-established during World War I, a feat which arguably would not have been possible without D. W. Griffith's skillful propaganda film The Birth of a Nation, based on the play The Clansmen and the book The Leopard's Spots, both by Thomas Dixon. Many poor whites were drawn to the idea that their economic woes were.
