Tribulation - Tribulation In Christian eschatology, the Tribulation is a period of immense suffering, greater than anything before in history, which some claim will occur before the end of the world. Many Christians believe that it will last seven years in all, usually divided into two periods of 3.5 years each. This is based on the phrase found several places in the book of Daniel, "time, times, and half a time." Among Christians who believe in the Tribulation, there are differing views about what will happen to Christians during the Tribulation. According to Pretribulationism, all Christians then alive will be taken bodily up to heaven (called the rapture or Parousia) before the Tribulation begins, although many who become Christians before the rapture will live through (or perish during).
John Walvoord - beliefs surrounding the timing of the Rapture of Christians from the earth. His conclusion was that this will occur before, and will precipitate the "Seven year tribulation"..
Innamorati - of generous portions of lust, romance, vanity, and poetry, and very little sense. The lovers come in obvious pairs who, through much trial and tribulation, are united at the end of the play. In larger troupes there may be multiple pairs of lovers which must be untangled by the action of the plot. One device to make sure that nobody could miss who belonged with whom was to dress each pair of lovers in similar colors and/or to name them with masculine and feminine versions of the same name such as Flavio and Flavia or Ottavio and Ottavia. The innamorati typically wore no masks and were dressed in the latest fashions unless the scenario forbade it. They were often called upon to sing, play an instrument, or recite poetry with some.
End times - times are, in one version of Christian eschatology, a time of tribulation that will precede the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, as is related in Bible prophecy such as the Book of Daniel, Book of Ezekiel, and Book of Revelation. Specifically, what is usually referred to as the 'end times' revolves around a cluster of beliefs in Christian millennialism. These beliefs typically include the ideas that the Biblical apocalypse is imminent and that various signs in current events are omens of Armageddon. While details vary, there is usually a fairly specific timetable set forth that climaxes in the end of the world. Israel, the European Economic Community, and sometimes the United Nations are supposed to be key players whose role was foretold in prophecies. Believers typically hope that they will be.
USS Yorktown (CV-5) - boats in the harbor. After carrying out their missions, the American planes returned to their carriers, and 103 planes of the 104 launched were back safely on board by noon. One SB3-2 of VS-2 had been downed by Japanese antiaircraft fire. The raid on Salamana and Lae was the first attack by many pilots of both carriers; and, while the resultant torpedo and bombing accuracy was inferior to that achieved in later actions, the operation gave the fliers invaluable experience which enabled them to do so well in the Battle of the Coral Sea and the Battle of Midway. Task Force 11 retired at 20 knots on a southeasterly course until dark, when the ships steered eastward at 15 knots and made rendezvous with Task Group (TG) 11.7 (four heavy cruisers.
USS Tuscaloosa (CA-37) - to find the Bismarck, British warships--directed by an American naval reserve ensign piloting a British PBY--succeeded in pounding Bismarck to junk on 27 May, avenging the loss of Hood. Tuscaloosa soon returned to the tedium of neutrality patrolling. As the United States continued in a slow but deliberate fashion to become involved, however, the tenor of events soon changed for the heavy cruiser. On 8 August, she departed Bermuda for Newfoundland and soon embarked General Henry H. Arnold, head of the Army Air Corps; Rear Admiral Richmond K. Turner, Director of the War Plans Division of the Navy; and Capt. Forrest Sherman. She joined Augusta (CA-31) off New York; and, together, the two ships, escorted by a screen of three destroyers proceeded to Argentia, Newfoundland. Augusta, bearing President Roosevelt, and her.
Dispensationalism - the Antichrist, is a political leader, dispensationalism has weakened the traditional Reformation-era identification of that figure with the Pope, and the Roman Catholic Church with the Whore of Babylon. Dispensationalism has led many evangelical Christians of the USA to temper their traditional anti-Catholicism, at least a little. Dispensationalism rejects the traditional Christian teaching of supersessionism. It tends to go hand-in-hand with a very protective attitude toward the Jewish people, and the modern State of Israel. John Nelson Darby taught, and most subsequent dispensationalists have consistently maintained, that God looks upon the Jews as his chosen people and continues to have a place for them in the dispensational, prophetic scheme of things. While virtually all traditions of Christianity teach that the Jews are a distinct people, irrevocably entitled to the promises of.
A Clergyman's Daughter - by George Orwell. It is probably Orwell's least read novel. It details the trials and tribulation of Dorothy Hare, a woman whose sad existence, devoted to 'good works' is turned upside down. It is largely experimental, with Orwell attempting to echo passages of James Joyce's 'nighttown' from Ulysses in it. Orwell himself disowned it as 'tripe', but it certainly helped develop his reputation as an up and coming novelist in the 1930s..
Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - to the Priesthood, patriarchal blessings, blessing and anointing of the sick, and blessings of newborn children, in homes or meetinghouses. In the Church today, however, there are some ordinances, including the Endowment and sealings that are performed only in temples. The Endowment is a very sacred and confidential ceremony in which the patron is washed and anointed to become rulers in the afterlife, followed by an instructional phase relating to what Mormons view as humanity's relation to God and God's creation. See Endowment (Mormonism). Sealings are ceremonies in which husband is bound to wife, and children to parents, for all eternity. See Sealing (Mormonism). In addition, these and several other ordinances may be performed vicariously or by proxy in behalf of the dead. Ordinances that may be performed on behalf of.

Christian eschatology - to his house again; his place will know him no more." Job does not say whoever goes to Sheol lives no more; he says a person who goes to Sheol does not return. Reading further in the passage, one finds he is speaking about returning "to his house again." In other words, a person does not come back to regular, physical life. This does not bar resurrection in the spirit (or even in the body) to an afterlife. It is important to note that Job was wrong about never seeing happiness again (again, he was exaggerating using standard literary technique, but he certainly saw happiness later. See Job 42). What does that say about his comments on Sheol? Intermediate state Belief in life after death of the body, according to Christian.
Conservative Grace Brethren Churches, International - maintain a 12 article statement of faith similar to the FGBC statement of faith. Comments added in 1994 make the CGBCI statement have an even stronger conservative flavor, highlighting such things as a young earth creation, the cessation of sign gifts, the seven year tribulation, and eternal punishment as a conscious state. In 2003 CGBCI had 46 churches in 15 states of the United States, with the main concentration being in Ohio. They have foreign missionaries in Africa and Germany. The Conservative Grace Brethren is one of six Brethren groups that cooperate in the Brethren World Assembly (org. 1992), and with the Brethren Encyclopedia, having one representative on the Board of Directors, as well as the following bodies: Church of the Brethren, Dunkard Brethren, Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches, Old German.
Zephaniah - (641-11). Sophonias is one of the few Prophets whose chronology is fixed by a precise date in the introductory verse of the book. Under the two preceding kings, Amon and Manasse, idolatry had been introduced in the most shameful forms (especially the cult of Baal and Astarte) into the Holy City, and with this foreign cult came a foreign culture and a great corruption of morals. Josias, the king with the anointed sceptre, wished to put an end to the horrible devastation in the holy places. One of the most zealous champions and advisers of this reform was Sophonias, and his writing remains one of the most important documents for the understanding of the era of Josias. The Prophet laid the axe at the root of the religious and moral corruption,.
The Late, Great Planet Earth - Bible, and that after the restoration, people were literally living the times Ezekiel predicted in chapters 38 and 39. The central theme to Lindsey's work was that Russia is the invader of the north about which Ezekiel prophesies, one of the true proofs that Ezekiel was a true prophet and we can expect his other prophecies to come true. Lindsey writes that there will be tribulation, and then on a day unknown to man, Jesus Christ will appear at a period in dispensational history called the Rapture, and will take away all those who believe in him, leaving the rest of humanity to suffer through 7 more years of tribulation. His work was a popular interpretation of the Bible and sold over 15 million copies in the seventies. Some consider it.
Rapture - duo Iio.'' In some variants of Christian eschatology, the rapture is the literal raising up of the faithful believers before the last days. According to this belief, believers will suddenly disappear from Earth in the "twinkling of an eye", while all others will be left behind to endure the tribulation. In some Christian circles this is known as a pre-trib doctrine, because the rapture rescues the faithful from Earth before the tribulation, rather than after, as some other Christians believe. The resurrection of the dead will occur at the same time. Supporters of this doctrine are most commonly found among fundamentalist and conservative Protestants, and is strongly disputed by other Christians. Supporters for this belief generally cite two primary sources in the New Testament: In 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, the Apostle Paul.
Re-Birth - centuries-post-apocalypse rural area whose leaders are frantic to keep God from bringing Tribulation upon the land again. They believe that in order to keep this wrath at bay, they need to root out mutations. Most of the time, these mutations manifest as odd plants or animals. But on occasion, they occur in humans, and those human mutants are banished and sterilised. Into this setting are born the protagonist, some of his relatives, and a few scattered others: Their mutation cannot be seen, making them all the more dangerous. They are telepathic. Wyndham tells this story with his characteristic dry humor and a protagonist that wisely fails to take himself too seriously. John Wyndham prefered the title 'The Chryslids' for this book. The word chrysalid means "relating to or resembling a chrysalis"..
Preterism - term preterite, or past perfect tense. Adherents of this view are known as Preterists. Preterists believe that prophecies such as the Second Coming, the defiling of the Temple, the destruction of Jerusalem, the Antichrist, the Great Tribulation, the advent of The Day of the Lord, the Resurrection of the dead (though they do not believe in bodily resurrection) and the Final Judgment were fulfilled at or about the year 70 AD when the Roman general (and future Emperor) Titus sacked Jerusalem and destroyed the Jewish Temple, putting a permanent stop to the daily animal sacrifices. Preterists also believe the term 'Last Days' refers not to the last days of planet Earth, or last days of mankind, but to the last days of the Old Covenant, the Mosaic Covenant which God had.
Michael the Archangel - of St. Michael 6 Michael in Islam Michael in the Bible In the Book of Daniel, the prophet Daniel experiences a vision after having undergone a period of fasting. In the vision, an angel identifies Michael as the protector of Israel (10:13, 21). Later in the vision (12:1), Daniel is informed that Michael will stand for Israel during the tribulation to come. No more mention is made of Michael until the New Testament. In the Book of Jude, reference is made to the tradition that Michael guards the body of Moses, to prevent the people from falling into hero-worship. The Book of Revelation shows Michael fighting the seven-headed dragon in a battle in heaven. Michael in Judaism Michael is designated in early Jewish writings, and in the Book of Enoch, as.
