Kriemhild - of the Nibelungenlied mythology, Kriemhild is one of four daughters of Ute. Her brothers were the three Niebelungen Kings Gunter, Gernot and Giselher. Sigurd fell in love with Kriemhild, and to gain her hand in marriage, agreed to help Gunter win the hand of Brunhilde, the amazonian queen of Iceland. Having done so, Sigurd and Kreimhild married. Brunhilde, learning of Sigurd's artifice, orders her husband to kill him, but Sigurd, who has bathed in the blood of the dragon Fafnir, is invulnerable. Juan Bautista de Anza - got under way in October, 1775 and arrived at Mission San Gabriel January, 1776 the colonists having suffered greatly from the winter weather enroute. Indian beadwork - is left white while some is "smoked" and is soft brown in appearance, and carries a heavenly smoked scent. With beadwork becoming harder and harder to find, we are always pleased to find new artists that continue to carry on the tedious labors of traditional beadwork. We also feature Pueblo beadwork, which we pick up mainly at Zuni Pueblo and Cochiti Pueblo in New Mexico. Ute work from the Ute tribe near Vernal Utah, as well as the Southern Utes located near Cortez, Colorado, Goshiute work from Skull Valley out towards the Nevada border, and occasionally some Nez Perce' , Ojibwa and Choctaw beaded items. Four Corners Monument - 109° 02' west, 36° 59' north. Four Corners c.2003 Not only is the point a four-corner intersection, it is the only point in the country shared by four states. A Ute Indian reservation abuts the point in Colorado. The landmark is run by the Navajo Nation Parks and Recreation Department and is a popular, though isolated, tourist attraction. Aspen, Colorado - tributary of the Colorado River about 40 miles south of Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Silver was first discovered by prospectors from Leadville, Colorado in 1879 after a treaty with the Ute tribe opened up the Western Slope of Colorado to entry. Because of difficult access mining development was slow but in 1877 the railroad was extended to Aspen and it grew to a population of 12,000 and 9 million dollars of silver bullion was mined at the height of the boom in 1892. During the life of the silver boom in Colorado, the price of silver steadily declined. At first it was propped up by purchases by the Federal Government, but in 1893 purchases ceased. Within a few days all the Aspen mines were closed and thousands of minors were put out.
