A writing that contains information.

Traditionally,the medium of a document was paper and the information was applied to it as ink either by hand (to make a hand-written document) or by a mechanical process (like a printing press, or a laser printer).

Today, electronic mediums are also popular such as the variety of computers and displays for them that exist, for example:

• a desktop computer and a monitor
• refreshable electronic paper
• a Personal Digital Assistant
