Lophiiformes

The order Lophiiformes are ray-finned fish, also called the Pediculati. Many forms, generally called anglerfishes, have distinctive lures, small projections on the forehead used to attract prey. Families include the following:

  • Lophiidae (goosefishes)
  • Antennariidae (frogfishes)
  • Ogcocephalidae (batfishes)
  • Ceratiidae
  • Chaunacidae
  • Gigantactinidae
  • Himantolophidae
