Spy satellite

A spy satellite is an Earth observation satellite or communications satellite deployed for military or intelligence applications.

Examples of spy satellite missions:

  • high resolution photography (IMINT)
  • communications eavesdropping (SIGINT)
  • covert communications (HUMINT)
  • enforcement of nuclear test bans
  • detection of missile launches
